School-building mission in Senegal

Volunteer Globally, one of the main pillars of Dubai Cares’ community outreach activities, offers members of the UAE community a rare chance to join the Dubai Cares team in a developing country to construct a school.

We are looking for volunteers who are 21 years and above, UAE residents, enthusiastic about social work and physically capable of performing construction work and adapting to the working conditions and routine of life in the village, to join us for this edition of Volunteer Globally 2019 which will take place from November 24-30, 2019 in Senegal.

Selected volunteers will join us in digging, picking, sifting, mixing concrete, making bricks, carrying water and tying rebar. Worksite activities will also be combined with cultural education workshops. Volunteers will be staying in a basic accommodation within close proximity to the school site and the community benefitting from the project.

Think you have what it takes? To apply for this edition of Volunteer Globally 2019 in Senegal, please complete the applications form no later than Sunday, June 09, 2019 at 10:00 AM.

We will be shortlisting the applications to 50 based on the answers you provide to the last question while prioritizing volunteers who sign up first. The 50 shortlisted volunteers will be invited for one-on-one interviews between June 25 and 27, following which we will select the 15 volunteers to travel to Senegal. An additional 15 volunteers will be placed on a waiting list.

The volunteers will receive a comprehensive briefing ahead of the trip, which will cover the ground situation in Senegal, socio-economic background as well as an overview of the activities that will be undertaken as part of the school construction.

Dubai Cares will finance the trip and this includes cost for visa, travel, accommodation, food and beverage, travel supplies and safety equipment. We expect the volunteers to cover the cost of vaccination, malaria tablets and medical checkups which are mandatory and vary from one country to another.

Upon return to Dubai, all volunteers will receive a Certificate of Appreciation from Dubai Cares.
