• Country: Nepal
  • Date: Apr 2016 - Mar 2019
  • Program Type: Education in Emergencies
  • Partner: Room to Read
The program contributes to Dubai Cares’ commitment to increasing support to education in emergencies, as well as recovery efforts. The intervention in Nepal not only ensures that children have a safe and resilient school environment to restart their education, but also provides access to sensitized teachers and reading materials that support their socio-emotional recovery.
10 schools, including pre-schools, are benefiting from reconstruction projects, creating child-friendly and safe learning environments.

The program includes a two-phase recovery intervention:
• Focus on infrastructure and learning environments, including building 80 new classrooms and rehabilitating 35 classrooms in schools in Nuwakot and providing the schools with water and sanitation, as well as furniture
• Focus on implementing a holistic literacy program in 100 targeted schools in Nuwakot and other districts, where severe destruction has occurred. This will include teacher training in reading and writing instruction, library management and activities encouraging reading habits, as well as provision of quality reading materials
