Dubai Cares, in partnership with UNICEF, worked to facilitate low cost and flexible child-friendly learning spaces for semi-nomadic communities in Sudan. Teachers were trained on gender-sensitive learner-centered methods. School and PTA members were trained on child-friendly school management. Alternative virtual learning opportunities were established for nomadic areas that were hard to reach. 200 new classrooms were built in semi-nomadic communities in Sudan. In South Sudan, Dubai Cares used school bags as an incentive to increase enrollment of girls and boys and to protect school materials in the absence of school facilities. This program is part of the ‘Go to School’ Initiative that represents the Government of Sudan’s roadmap to achieve the goals of Education for All and the United Nations Millennium Development Goals.
