Dubai Cares implemented a pilot comprehensive Homegrown School Feeding (HGSF) program titled the Enhanced School Health Initiative (ESHI) in partnership with the Partnership for Child Development (PCD), the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) and SNV Netherlands; along with the Ethiopian Government and the Ethiopian Public Health Research Institute (EPHI). The program included school feeding linked to local production, Water Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) and deworming interventions based on the internationally agreed on framework for effective SHN programming; Focusing Resources on Effective School Health (FRESH). The program drew on the partners’ comparative advantages to pilot comprehensive school health and nutrition approaches and was implemented in 30 schools located across the Southern Nations, Nationalities and Peoples Regions (SNNPR).
