On October 24th, 2014, A Bangladeshi housemaid named Safya perished after saving the life of four young children she cared for in Abu Dhabi. Dubai Cares was directed by the Prime Minister’s Office of the Ministry of Cabinet Affairs in November 2014 to honor Safya’s memory through an education initiative. Dubai Cares, in partnership with Building Resources Across Communities (BRAC), the largest NGO in Bangladesh, directed the construction of a lower secondary school in the Bhatapara region of Bangladesh, Safya’s hometown. This program supports the construction of 15 classrooms as well as other facilities that accommodate up to 400 students a year. The budget also covers the running of the school for the first 5 years.
