Dubai Cares invites the UAE community to its Walk for Education 2016

Dubai Cares today announced its seventh annual Walk for Education under the slogan 'Walk the distance. Make a difference'. A popular feature in the local community calendar, this event calls upon UAE citizens, residents and visitors to walk 3 kilometers to highlight the plight of millions of children in developing countries who walk an average of three kilometers every day to attend school.

Dubai Cares Walk for Education 2016 will take place on Friday, March 4th at Dubai Creek Park (next to Al Garhoud Bridge) proceeding along Riyadh Road. Participants are requested to arrive at Dubai Creek Park, Gate 2 at 8am to take part in the walk, as well as the family-friendly lineup of post-walk entertainment inside the park, including face painting, games, music and dance.

Commenting on the success of the Walk for Education and the importance of UAE community support in realizing the organization's mission, Tariq Al Gurg, Chief Executive Officer of Dubai Cares said: "Now in its seventh edition, the Walk for Education symbolizes the support and empathy of the UAE community to walk side-by-side with children in developing countries, who endure exhausting journeys to and from school, in order to gain access to education. It is our mission at Dubai Cares to overcome the economic, social and cultural obstacles that prevent underprivileged children from acquiring their basic right of education. The Walk for Education is testament to the deep desire of children in the developing world to aspire to a better life for themselves and their communities, and it is with the ongoing support of the UAE community that Dubai Cares is able to realize that aspiration for those children."

"Last year, more than 8,000 participants took part in The Walk for Education, and it is with the help of our valued sponsors and volunteers that this event continues to attract such an outstanding response year after year. The Walk enables us to spread awareness locally about the work that we do in developing countries in support of children's right to education. I am delighted to confirm that for the fourth consecutive year, Chevron is one of the two main sponsors for our Walk for Education 2016. This year, Midas joins hands with us and comes on board as the second main sponsor. We are also pleased to have the in-kind support of the Arabian Radio Network as our "Radio Sponsor" for the fifth consecutive year. I am whole-heartedly grateful that individuals and organizations in our community volunteer their time, efforts and resources to support the work of Dubai Cares," continued Al Gurg.

Chris Bradley, General Manager Middle East, Chevron Al Khalij said: "We are pleased to sponsor the Walk for Education for the fourth consecutive year. Our partnership with Dubai Cares strongly reflects Chevron's continued commitment to promote education and provides an opportunity for the community to come together to support a worthy cause."

Abbas Kassam, Chief Executive Officer - Distribution, Midas Safety, said: "Midas Safety is proud to sponsor Dubai Cares' Walk for Education 2016 to help raise awareness of the hardships that children in developing countries face every day to go to school. Midas Safety is committed to supporting such noble causes and contributing to local community engagement activities in the UAE."

As a main pillar of Dubai Cares community engagement efforts, the Walk for Education encourages participants of all ages and levels of fitness to walk the 3km route. The event galvanizes the strong community spirit of the UAE and attracts families, friends, corporate entities, academic institutions, media, and government institutions to take part and advocate for children's right to education.

The event is designed to promote family-friendly fun in the local community and includes entertainment and activities in the picturesque surroundings of Dubai Creek Park. A bouncy castle, DJ, games arcade, photo booth, food stands and live performances by the Dubai Police Band and Dubai Drums, ensure that this is a community event with a difference!

The entry fee for Dubai Cares Walk for Education is AED 30 per person. The Walk is free for children under the age of five. Those interested in participating can register online at http://dubaicares.ae or on-site on the day of the event - Friday, March 4, 2016 starting at 8 am.
