Dubai Cares is implementing a bilingual education program, which is working towards enhancing and scaling up the government-driven bilingual education policy in Senegal. Designed and implemented to limit student drop-out rates due to linguistic barriers, the bilingual education policy enables an effective teaching model that incorporates French, as well as local dialects.

The program focuses on:
• Strengthening teacher training, especially with regards to instruction methods in mother tongue languages
• Strengthening teachers supervision and ensuring quality education through capacity building of education inspectors
• Enhancing and distributing teaching and learning materials in mother tongue languages for different grades
• Increasing coverage by including 100 new classrooms during the first year of the program
• Raising awareness of the Parent Teacher Associations (PTAs) and community members on the importance of bilingual education and engaging in a dialogue with stakeholders at national level in order to influence policy
