Dubai Cares’ Volunteers Spruce Up Al Basateen Kindergarten in Dubai

Second edition of “Volunteer Emirates 2013” kicks off with around 100 volunteers

Around 100 volunteers from the UAE community joined Dubai Cares today to refurbish Al Basateen Kindergarten at Al Khawaneej in Dubai, providing students with an enhanced, fun, educational and learning experience.

Volunteers of the second edition of Volunteer Emirates 2013 assisted in drawing murals in the school hallway, main hall-room as well as the Kindergarten playground. The volunteers also helped in assembling and installing new toys and equipment in the playground area, making the premises safer and more enjoyable for the children.

Tariq Al Gurg, Chief Executive Officer of Dubai Cares said: “As a platform that aims to encourage a culture of volunteerism in the UAE, the Volunteer Emirates initiative has been receiving a favorable response from the UAE community to join and make a difference. We highly value the efforts these volunteers put today to improve the overall environment at Al Basateen Kindergarten and look forward to having more volunteers on board this year to take part in the upcoming editions of Volunteer Emirates 2013.”

Fatima Al Abdalla, General Manager, Al Basateen Kindergarten - Al Khawaneej Branch said: “On behalf of all the teachers and the students, I would like to express my sincere gratitude to Dubai Cares and all the volunteers who contributed their time and efforts to make Al Basateen Kindergarten a more wonderful and safer environment for the children.”

Joining Volunteer Emirates 2013, Hessa Mohmmad said: “I feel very proud that my efforts will go a long way towards making a difference for the children at the Kindergarten. I would like to thank Dubai Cares for providing us with this opportunity and I look forward to taking part in future volunteering activities.”

Ayesha Siddiqi, a volunteer who participated in the first edition of Volunteer Emirates 2013 commented: “I greatly appreciate what Dubai Cares is doing. I've always watched Dubai Cares' activities from the sidelines, but after getting a hands-on experience, I was able to realize what the organization truly stands for and appreciate their efforts in giving children their right for education.”

Volunteer Emirates is part of a series of local initiatives launched by Dubai Cares to offer UAE residents opportunities to give back to their community here at home by dedicating their time and effort to support a worthy cause. Last month, more than 100 volunteers took part in the first edition of Volunteer Emirates 2013 which involved renovating and enriching the educational environment for the students of Umm Al Qura Private School in Umm Al Quwain. The volunteers were involved in landscaping and painting work, assembling and installing new playground and classroom toys, as well as providing new sports and music equipment.
