Donate your Zakat and Sadaqa to Palestine Refugees

For the first time, Dubai Cares will be accepting Zakat* and Sadaqa from the wider UAE community. Dubai Cares joins hands with the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) in support of a global fundraising campaign titled #DignityIsPriceless. The campaign aims to protect vital services to over 5.3 million Palestinian refugees, preserving their dignity, and giving them hope for a brighter future.

Dubai Cares’ partnership with UNRWA in the UAE will focus on raising funds towards two separate programs:

Sadaqa Program

The Sadaqa program aims to support the running costs of schools in Gaza for one academic year to ensure the uninterrupted delivery of quality education to the refugee students. The support comes in the form of provision of learning materials, paying salaries of education staff and covering the operating costs for the academic year 2018-2019.

AED 2,953,172 (USD 804,000) will enable 1,000 Palestine refugee children to attend school for a year.

Zakat Program

The Zakat program’s objective is to mitigate the severity of food insecurity amongst poor Palestinian refugee households in Gaza through the regular distribution of food assistance.

The food baskets distributed by UNRWA contain flour, rice, oil, sugar, milk, lentils, chickpeas and canned sardines. For children in particular, this will supplement their diets and prevent the damaging effects of undernutrition, which can lead to stunting and other serious child development issues.

The donation target of AED 3,673,100.00 (USD 1,000,000) will support the cost of distributing a food basket to 10,725 Palestine refugee children and their families for a period of one year.

This program will contribute to helping Palestinian refugee students meet their basic human needs of food, thus enabling them to continue their education within UNRWA schools.
